Majestic

Psalm 76:4-6 reads “You are resplendent with light, more majestic than mountains rich with game. Valiant men lie plundered, they sleep their last sleep; not one of the warriors can lift his hands. At your rebuke, O’ God of Jacob, both horse and chariot lie still.” One of the first things that makes me praise and feel awe for the Lord is when I am traveling some of the great places of the Rocky Mountain West. On a recent trip in the summer of 2008, I led a group on a fly fishing excursion to Jackson Hole, Wyoming. It is one of the most beautiful places on earth. I mean, it is so awesomely beautiful that words cannot express the true beauty of it. When I behold the sight of the Teton Range in all of its immense size and beauty, I also feel the same in my heart toward my Father who created it. I see it as a small reflection of his majesty….for truly indeed He is more majestic than that range in all the glory that is possible in it.

When we were flying home we left the Jackson Hole airport and the plane in a slightly easterly track and then northerly track flew over the incredible Wind River Range. This range is home to the highest peaks in Wyoming, including the famous Gannett Peak. At 13804′ it is the highest point in Wyoming. Just remembering what it was like looking down and beholding the immense size and beauty of that range…I just don’t have the words. It again points me to the one who created it. And I wonder what it will be like when we see our Savior face to face and He takes us home………just like now I can’t come up with words to express what that is going to be like.

Grace Flows Downhill

It flows downhill…..God’s grace. I just can’t fully get my arms or mind around it. I mean think about it…. When we hear ‘Grace’ we sometimes go right to the New Testament, and we think of Jesus, and we should, but do you know that Gods grace is a theme that started in Genesis and that theme is present throughout the Old Testament as well as the new. Genesis 6:7 has bad news but 6:8 begins with my favorite word……”But…..”. Genesis 6:7 reads “And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.” That’s the bad news. Genesis 6:8 reads , and it begins with one of my favorite words, “But Noah found GRACE in the eyes of the LORD.” There it is….GRACE. Later in verse 9 we read in the KJV that Noah was a “just” man, the NIV says a “righteous” man….he walked with God. Later we see in Genesis 15:6 with Abram (Abraham) that Abram’s faith God credited it to him as righteousness. Having faith and walking with God credited as righteousness. Sounds like salvation by GRACE through faith…..and that’s exactly what it is.

I always find wonder and amazement anew in how God has woven the gospel message, the message of GRACE in so many things in the bible. I mean its there if you look for it. Whether its Noah, or Abram, or even the mental picture of the Ark…..I mean the Ark is a picture of Christ. Go to the concept of a covenant with Abram. The picture of Isaac on the Altar and how that is a real picture of Christ, a sacrifice. Amazing.

Just like the hymn says….. GRACE is truly amazing.
